Mr. Hanegan is a professional private trustee, a registered investment advisor, a certified financial planner and a certified public accountant. He is the owner of Hanegan & Associates, P.C. in Denver, Colorado. He specializes in estate and trust administration and financial services to a select group of wealthy families and their various controlled companies. He has substantial experience in financial planning, investment selection, asset supervision, mechanisms to shift wealth within families, and the use of domestic and international trusts, S corporations and limited liability entities. He also has extensive experience in the formation of business entities (including domestic and international joint ventures), financial structuring, mergers and acquisitions, asset protection and business planning. He is often involved in the structuring of private investments and in complex income tax and gift & estate tax planning, and has represented clients at Revenue Agents’ examinations, at various appeals levels of the Internal Revenue Service, and in requests for private rulings from the National Office of the Internal Revenue Service.
Mr. Hanegan was previously a partner of Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. (now KPMG Peat Marwick). As a tax partner in the Denver office of Peat Marwick, he was involved primarily in the oil and gas and cable television industries, and the affairs of high net worth individual clients. In June of 1984, when he left Peat Marwick, Mr. Hanegan was heading the international tax practice of the Denver office, and was also an administrative group partner with personnel responsibilities.
Mr. Hanegan is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Rocky Mountain Estate Planning Council. He was a founding member of the Rocky Mountain British Business Association; past president, director and finance committee chairman of Alliance Francaise de Denver; past president and treasurer of the Young Republican League of Denver; past treasurer and director of The Denver Petroleum Club; and Past Master of Denver Masonic Lodge No. 5 A.F. & A.M.
